Hitting up a friend who’s “in the know” in, the friend hesitates but finally passes a name: a street dealer who’s been around forever.
In a quiet parking lot near a shopping centre, the guy—shifty but cool, hands over a bag of Pineapple Express, a strain with a sharp, earthy scent and a heavy, stoney high.
“It’s R600,” he mutters, glancing around. The whole cloak-and-dagger vibe feels so outdated, like something from a 90s crime movie—wrong for 2025.
Reflecting on the risk, it’s clear this method is dodgy. “Ever thought of starting a cannabis club?” you suggest. “It’d be safer—private use is legal now.
He nods, intrigued. The Pretoria Cannabis Network (PCN), a new group, has been promoting clubs as a safer way to share, hosting meetups to discuss legal options.
Fun fact: Street dealing is on the decline—the South African Cannabis Trends Report (SACTR) says 40% of users now prefer private clubs or home grows since decriminalization in 2018!
